A tribute to the life and work of Brian Torode

In Pursuit of the Parents of Robert Barton of Thornbury (1604c-1663)

We are indebted to Richard Byrd who has carefully listed early Barton entries from Thornbury Parish Registers in the hope of finding the parents of our ancestor, Robert Barton (1604c-1663). There is also his transcriptions of some of the early Barton Wills.

Richard Byrd would be very grateful of any corrections…

‘You are welcome to add any of the wills to your blog that you think will benefit you or other Barton researchers.  I don’t believe that I have been totally consistent in my transcriptions.  In some, I have transcribed letter by letter of each word as I read it.  This sometimes gives words that don’t make good sense in the sentence until you think about what it might mean.  You will probably also notice that I don’t always read some of the script correctly.  I try to enclose what I am unsure about in {  }, ( ) or [ ]. In other cases, I transcribed using a more modern spelling as I perceive the meaning of a word.
No one should take my transcriptions as absolutely correct.  Questionable information should be checked against the original.’
