———————————————————————————————————————

HENRY TRIPPETT, Great XIII Grandfather of Richard Barton

Husband of Joan Hopkins

Father of Henry Trippett

Also Father of James Trippett

(The Military Survey of Gloucestershire for 1522 refers to William Trippet, 53s 4d, 40s, glaive and Henry Trippet 40s, 40s, bow, arrows and glaive)

Henricus Trippett married Joan Hopkins on 14th October 1543 at Awre. She was probably a daughter of Alexander Hopkins but is not mentioned in his will.

Will of Alexander Hopkins (possibly Henry’s father-in-law):

‘In the name of God. Amen. The 20th day of August the year of our lord God 1545. I Alexander Hopkins of the parish of Awre … I make overseers Richard Lane, Henry Trippet, James Hopkins being witness (obscured) Rose, Richard Trippet, William Lane the elder with others. ‘

A Richardus Trippett of Awre. who married Marian on 1st February 1538. may be Henry’s brother. He was the ancestor of the Trippetts of Field House and his son, Thomas, left £10 to ‘Henry Trippett the younger’ in 1585.

Will of Thomas Trippett 1585:

‘In the name of God Amen, the twenty second day of July Anno Domini 1585 anno regni domini duo Regina xxvii Elizabeth one true sovereign, I Thomas Trippett the elder of Awre in the diocese of Gloucester Yeoman … Item to Henry Trippett the younger ten pound.’

The will of Thomas’s father, Richard Trippett of Field House, Awre, which is dated 1561, demonstrates the family’s connections with the River Severn:

‘and half my lave nets which now at Severn and half my lave nets which is made this year and half my boat and half my part of the purchase of the fishing of the Bench Rowe with the appurtenances paying half the rent thereof’

Henry and Joan Trippett had at least two children Henry and a James who was baptised at Awre in 1545.

Henry Trippett the elder was probably buried at Awre on 19th November 1589, some months after his son Henry was drowned in the River Severn.

The children of Henry and Joan were:

JAMES TRIPPETT, Great XIII Uncle of Richard Barton

James was baptised on 20th August 1545 at Awre and a James Trippett of Woodend was buried at Awre on 19th June 1592 having left a will in which there is mention of his son Henry Trippett and daughters Ann and Joan.

Will of James Trippett 1592:

‘In the name of God Amen, anno domini 1591 the eighteen day of January of the reign of our Queen Elizabeth (Latin: thirty third year). I James Trippett of Awre in the diocese of Gloucester, Husbandman, sick in body but of good and perfect memory (thanks be to God) do make-th this my last will and testament in manner and form following. …’

HENRY TRIPPETT, Great XII Grandfather of Richard Barton

Son of Henry Trippett and Joan nee Hopkins

Husband of Margaret Berrowe

Father of Anies or Avies or Avis Dorney

Henry was probably the son of Henry Trippet and Joan Hopkyns who were married at Awre on 14th October 1543.

Henry Trippett ot Triffett married Margaret Berrowe at Awre on 21st October 1582.

A daughter, Anies, was baptised at Awre on 4th February1583/84, daughter of Henrie Trippett.

Henry received a legacy from Thomas Trippett of Field House in 1585. He was probably a cousin.

There are two burials in 1589 for Henrys. One is for Henry the elder buried 19 November 1589 and the other for Henry, one of five men drowned in the Severn on the 18 April 1589. I suspect that the drowning is Henry, father of Anies or Avies who married Adrian Dorney.

MARGARET DANYELL, Great XII Grandmother of Richard Barton

Daughter of Berrowe

Wife of Henry Trippett

Mother of Anies or Avies or Avis Dorney

Also Wife of Richard Danyell

Mother of Richard and James Danyell

Margaret Berrowe married Henry Trippett ot Triffett at Awre on 21st October 1582.

Margaret would seem to be a member of the Barrow Family of Quedgeley, Hardwicke and Awre.

Anies was baptised at Awre on 4th February1583/84, daughter of Henrie Trippett.

There are two burials in 1589 for Henrys. One is for Henry the elder buried 19 November 1589 and the other for Henry, one of five men drowned in the Severn on the 18 April 1589. I suspect that the drowning is Henry, father of Anies or Avies who married Adrian Dorney.

Margaret then married Richard Danyell at Awre on 9th February 1589/90 and they had at least two children Richard and James.

Men & Armour for Gloucestershire in 1608′ lists ‘Richard Daniel, Saylor 2. p. (about forty and tall enough to be a ‘pykeman’)

James Berrowe’s nuncupative will of 1605 lists a Margaret Daniell as a witness

Margaret was buried on 28th November 1642 at Awre – Margaretta Trippet alias Danill, widow.

The child of Henry and Margaret Trippett:

ANIES or AVIES or AVIS DORNEY, Great XI Grandmother of Richard Barton

Daughter of Henry Trippett and Margaret nee Berrowe

Husband of Adrian Dorney

Mother of John Dorney II

Also Mother of Jane

Anies was baptised at Awre on 4th February 1583/84, daughter of Henrie Trippett. Her father married Margaret Berrowe at Awre on 21st October 1582.

Adrian Dorney married Avies Trippett at Awre on 23rd February 1603.

Avis wife of Adrian Dorney was buried at North Nibley on 4th February 1615/16.

In 1618 Johana Adeane of Etloe in the Parish of Awre left a legacy to John and Jane Dorney (the children of Adrian and Avies Dorney)

Will of Johanne Adeane of Etloe, Gloucesterishire (1618)

‘Item; I do give and bequeath John Dorney and unto Jane Dorney each of them a lamb on two shillings six pence apiece in money at the choice of my executrix. ‘

Adrian Dorney, was buried at North Nibley in on 22nd March 1633/34.

The children of Richard and Margaret Danyell:

Richard son of Richard Danyell was buried on 11th September 1592 at Awre
