A tribute to the life and work of Brian Torode

Memorial at St Stephen’s Church

The members of the congregation at St Stephen’s, Tivoli, Cheltenham, have raised funds for a wall plaque for their church in memory of Father Brian. It is situated in the south aisle near to the south doorway.  Judith Verity of Malmesbury designed and carved the stone which bears the inscription ‘Father Brian Edward Torode, 1941-2014, Our Beloved Teacher, Friend and Priest’. The memorial was unveiled after Sunday Mass on 13th September 2014, the Feast of the Holy Cross. It is made of Purbeck marble and Portland stone. Whilst Judith carried out the design work, Rosemary Carey, a member of the congregation, suggested the acanthus leaves at the corners which were painted on to the Purbeck stone. This beautiful tribute cost £2,500.
